Windows XP Professional Gives Top Law Firm Stability, Security, and Major Savings in Administration, Support, and Management
Overview One of the top 20 law firms worldwide, with 1,200 lawyers, offices in 25 U.S. locations, and a presence in six other countries, Holland & Knight LLP offers representation in more than 100 areas of law. The firm needed a more stable environment for running new and old applications and a more standardized approach to system administration and management. With the implementation of Microsoft Windows XP Professional on some 3,500 desktop and portable machines, Holland & Knight LLP began realizing benefits almost from the start: a U.S.$40,000 savings on third-party deployment tools, a 10–20 percent reduction in general support costs, an annual savings of $30,000 on third-party remote-capability tools, and a reduction in daily IT-assisted reboots at each office from three or four down to zero. The firm also is vastly simplifying desktop administration by centralizing implementation of security and other firm wide IT policies, running valuable legacy applications with newfound stability, and giving its portable PC users long-sought power-management advantages.
