General Firewall White Paper

Overview This paper covers firewalls and proxy servers in general. Any device that controls network traffic for security reasons can be called a firewall, and in fact the term "firewall" is used in a generic way. However, there are three major types of firewalls that use different strategies for protecting network resources. This white paper talks about defensive strategies to be applied while implementing firewalls, how to classify firewalls, screening router (Packet Filters), proxy server gateways, inspection techniques and firewall policies.
