Sytec's Customers Demanded Tools to Control Employees' Internet Use, Such As Visits to Pornographic Sites, Music Downloads and Online Shopping
Overview SyTec was founded by Mark Cavaliero and Sam Estridge to maintain computer networks for other companies. Business boomed as more and more companies, organizations and government offices began providing desktop Internet and e-mail access for employees. In 1999, SyTec's customers started asking for tools to control employees' Internet use, such as visits to pornographic sites, music downloads and online shopping. A state government agency contacted SyTec with concerns that if employees visited adult sites it would open state officials up to embarrassment and possible lawsuits. SyTec's engineers recommended installing SurfControl Web and E-mail Filters. The results were immediate. Supervisors reported an increase in employee productivity.
