Instant Messaging and Remote Desktop Prove Popular as 9,000 Users Get Standardized Systems
Overview Rockwell Collins, with operations in 22 nations, is a world leader in the development and production of advanced communication and aviation electronics. The company recently completed deployment of Microsoft Windows XP Professional and Microsoft Office XP Professional across the 7,000 desktop PCs and 2,000 laptop computers used by employees in its 45 sites across the United States. Dubbed Evolution II, the well-planned rollout provides a standardized desktop, which is easier to manage than the old collection of earlier versions of Windows. Surveys conducted after the migration showed that 90 percent of Rockwell Collins employees found the ease of use of the new operating system met or exceeded their expectations. In parallel with the desktop rollout, Rockwell Collins deployed the Windows 2000 Active Directory directory service.
