Sales and Delivery Automation Application Laps Its Competition with the .NET Framework

Overview When Rutherford & Associates wanted to give its sales and delivery systems better scalability, especially for geographically dispersed topologies, they turned to the Microsoft .NET Framework. Their existing Unix/Linux systems could not connect to the Internet and were becoming very expensive to maintain. They evaluated Java and J2EE-based solutions, but the high cost of developing with these technologies ruled out any viable time-to-market and product life-cycle goals. Their complete .NET Framework solution includes a Microsoft SQL Server database, a smart client back-office application, an online Web forms ordering application, and a Pocket PC-based mobile sales and delivery solution. Web services tie the Pocket PCs to the back office.
