Carl Zeiss Foundation Enhances Availability of Its SAP Systems with BMC Software Backup and Recovery Solutions

Overview The two corporate groups of the Carl Zeiss Foundation, the Schott Group and the Carl Zeiss Group (Schott-Zeiss), produce high-quality glass and optics products. One of the most important tasks of the KRZ is to provide services for 75 SAP/R3 systems that run on 85 application servers. To ensure stability and availability, Schott-Zeiss desired a high performance backup and recovery solution in addition to the redundant design configuration of the system. Based on their criteria, Schott-Zeiss began to research the market for a solution. They could not find a solution to meet all of their requirements because they were running a new release of SAP that was not yet supported by available vendors and tools. After an attempt to internally develop a solution, Schott-Zeiss engaged in a strategic development partnership with BMC Software.
