In North Carolina: Wireless Helps Fast-Growing School District Keep Pace
Overview The North Carolina's Wake County Public School System began installation of Cisco Aironet 340 Series networks in 2000. This permanent connection is accomplished with Cisco Aironet 340 Series wireless bridges, access points, and PC card client adapters. Strategically positioned inside the main school building and mobile facilities, Cisco Aironet 340 Series access points connect to the wired backbone of the network and provide the links from the wireless clients to the wired network. Teachers assign course work and handle administrative duties on the wireless LAN (WLAN). Students use the system primarily for tapping into campus resources and the Internet. They connect to local file servers at each school, accessing curriculum-specific applications that their teachers assign. The district plans to use wireless for wide area network (WAN) connectivity on other multischool campuses using the Cisco Aironet 340 Series wireless bridges.
