Cisco Aironet Aids Wireless Internet Access at Union Endicott Schools

Overview The Union Endicott School District in Endicott, New York had a 56 Kbps WAN operating between ten buildings using leased lines. Lawrence and Burns were attracted to the possibility of eliminating their leased telephone line expenses, but were skeptical of the reliability and capacity of wireless bridges. Even with new Internet costs, Union Endicott will save $25,000 per year through the conversion to Cisco Aironet wireless bridges and the elimination of most of the leased line costs. In addition, the bridges provide data throughput up to 20 times faster than the old system. School technology grants such as the New York State grant used by Union Endicott can defray the cost of equipment and installation of wireless systems. These grants typically cover hardware such as wireless bridges, but not services such as leased line costs.
