Howard University-Cisco Wireless LAN Connectivity Greets Students in 12 Residence Halls Beginning 2000-2001 Academic Year

Overview Howard University in Washington, D.C. sought to implement wireless network connectivity for students in 14 residence halls beginning in the fall of 2000. Howard University chose the Cisco Aironet 340 series of wireless LAN products because of their features, ease of installation, cost-effectiveness, and ability to integrate with the existing Ethernet infrastructure. Cisco Aironet products are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11b wireless standard and utilize direct sequence spread spectrum technology, offering up to 11 Mbps throughput. Network administrators at Howard University have seen an enormous increase in network activity since the Cisco Aironet wireless LAN was installed.
