Telephony Systems - PBX White Papers

A TEQConsult Group White Paper: PBX Market Review 2003

Overview The PBX market has been weathering some rough storms these past three years as shipments and revenues tumbled to mid-1990s levels, and profits all but disappeared. Increased shipments of IP stations have been one of the few positives in the shaky market, although actual shipment levels have not grown as fast as many market forecasters predicted. Customers continue to install a large number of traditional circuit switched peripherals while testing the IP telephony waters. A small number of customers are testing the IP-PBX client/server design waters, while most customers still prefer a voice communications system solution primarily based on circuit switched technology that is more reliable and flexible in design. IP-enabled and converged PBX systems will likely dominate the landscape for several more years until the LAN-centric client/server design achieves wider market acceptance.
