American Honda: On a Roll With SAS Software
Overview American Honda's strategy for continued global success in the 21st century can be summarized in three steps: stay close to customers, understand their needs and exceed their expectations. American Honda's SEI analysts use data from different areas of the company - claims, parts, sales, dealers' service records - and sometimes from different applications. They needed access to data from across the organization to make business decisions that would prevent problems or address them in their infancy. In 1985, SAS software was installed on American Honda's MVS system to assist with decision-support activities. One of SEI's programmers developed a SAS FRAME application so that the users could view the jobs they currently had in the background waiting to run at later times. This allowed the users to see what times were under-utilized for the submission of background jobs and enabled them to view, change, and delete jobs previously submitted to run later. This solution allows them to get what they want right now in terms of power and functionality.
