StorageNet 6000: Overview and Description

Overview The StorageNet 6000 (SN6000) storage domain manager solves the following three major problems of shared tape SANs: The difficulty in scaling or expanding storage domains; The complexity of administration as scale increases; The necessity to procure expensive backup software option packages that may be licensed per tape drive. The SN6000 solves these problems by making it very simple to manage and add, or remove, servers and tape transports in a shared tape SAN. It does this through virtualization, or the segregation between a virtual tape drive (and tape library) universe seen by the servers, and a real universe seen only by the SN6000. The SN6000 provides the connection between the two universes.
