Java Web Services Portal Connects Small and Medium-Sized Businesses in European Tourism Industry
Overview Five-star hotels have their advantages for travelers who are looking for a certain type of experience and have the appropriate budget. But what if you want to get off the beaten path and stay at a small bed and breakfast tucked away in the hills of Tuscany, Italy? Finding hidden travel gems has not always been easy, because global, corporate tourism distributors tend not to service smaller companies. And in Europe, family-run hotels are commonplace. For these small and medium-size businesses, FETISH-The Federated European Tourism Information Service Harmonisation project--is offering a compelling new advantage. Funded by the European Commission (EC), the FETISH project has essentially developed a federated community of tourism enterprises and services. This virtual community, which is brought together through Web Services, is the first of its kind to be created with Jini network technology from Sun.
