Paul Getty Museum Re-Architects Technology to Enhance Visitors' Experience

Overview The J. Paul Getty Museum (the Getty) collects and exhibits Greek and Roman antiquities, European paintings, drawings, manuscripts, sculpture, decorative arts, and European and American photographs. The Getty was using a traditional audioguide to guide visitors through the museum and a separate interactive kiosk system to provide in-depth information. Though successful for years, the lack of integration in separate systems was confusing for visitors. In addition, the Getty wanted an updated, more flexible solution based on a next-generation architecture that would help it deliver enhanced services to visitors while reducing costs and speeding time to market for new initiatives. Though the Getty evaluated other technology vendors, it ultimately chose Sun as its primary technology provider. Sun Services worked closely with the Getty IT team on design and implementation, with Sun providing project management, architecture design, and development best practices based on the SunTone Architecture Methodology.
