Overcoming Tape Backup Headaches Using Disk-Based Technology
Overview Tape backup procedures have significant problems in meeting the needs that modern always-on systems demand for speed, hot backups without bandwidth drag, easy partial restores, and bare metal restores. Applications that use virtual volume imaging take full advantage of the unique characteristics of disk-to-disk backup by overcoming these obstacles for IT organizations. Best of all, it is not mutually exclusive - disk-to-disk backups can work within an existing tape environment providing another layer of data protection that is closer in time to the use of that data. The technology and the demand for high reliability, high speed, simple disk-to-disk protection strategies have converged. This paper provides a simpler, yet cost acceptable, solution to complete data protection and disaster recovery.
