Flow of Medical Information: Problems and Solutions for HR
Overview The article follows the way by which HR can seek help from medical information and health care providers to complying with complicated federal workplace regulations which is probably the toughest job HR professionals face. The restricted flow of health care information makes it more difficult to manage group health plans, but initially most employers should not worry too much about violating the law. Standard procedures for group health plans generally are designed to protect the privacy of medical records so, therefore to comply with the HIPAA rules, employers should formalize their procedures. A reduction in employer-provided benefits will be an unfortunate and unintended side effect of these privacy regulations. It's also a bit ironic because these regulations are meant to protect people's privacy and health benefits, but, in the long run, the rules will probably end up restricting access to health benefits.
