Advantages of Running Oracle 9i Database with Real Application Clusters on the Egenera BladeFrame

Overview Over the past decade, the use of clustering has grown in response to the need for high performance computing, high availability and load balancing. Database applications, however, have historically been run on single servers, often requiring expensive, high-capacity SMP systems that represent a single point of failure. In response, Oracle has introduced 9i Real Application Clusters - a scalable, highly available database on SAN-connected Linux machines. This paper explores how the Egenera BladeFrame with its PAN architecture provides unique advantages for this exciting new Oracle application.
