PBS Enters the Digital Dimension, Enhancing the Commitment to Diverse Programming
Overview Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) delivers America's most diverse array of free, noncommercial programming 365 days a year, from “Sesame Street” to “Wall Street” Week with Fortune. However, that very strength poses significant challenges as PBS and every other U.S. broadcaster negotiates the landmark conversion from analog to digital television by 2006. For acquiring and scheduling thousands of titles from hundreds of producers and distributors means compiling an extraordinary amount of meta data. PBS teamed with Accenture to design, develop and deliver PBS Orion, a Web-based extranet solution that supports programming and scheduling information for PBS, program producers and program distributors. This comprehensive Web-based portal tracks each program, and all associated data, from commission to on-air premiere. With Orion, PBS also established the foundation for operational success in the digital world.
