Overview This white paper describes the business case behind network availability, the general principles used in the networking industry for achieving network resiliency and protection specifically from a routing perspective and the technology solution proposed by Alcatel to address the current lack of real non-stop IP networking: ACEIS. ACEIS runs on different Alcatel routing and switching products including the Alcatel 7670 Routing Switch Platform (RSP) and the Alcatel 7770 Optical Broadband Exchange (OBX). This paper describes how Alcatel has achieved true 99.999% reliability on its routing and switching platforms. It also provides guidance on how service providers can adapt their network architectures to realize this improvement.
