Sun Servers Bring Home the Gold at the 2002 Olympic Winter Games

Overview In show business and in sports, what happens behind the scenes must be perfect. Just before the beginning of an athletic event is not the time to have problems with a timing sensor or relay device. Especially not when the whole world is watching, as they were at the Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games of 2002. At the Salt Lake 2002 Games, Sun's technology gave a performance that was worthy of a gold medal. For the technology team, the 17 days of the Games were remarkably quiet. Sun engineers had to replace only one power supply and a single disk drive, neither of these compromised system performance in any way. Technology glitches that had plagued past Olympic Games didn't happen.
