Sunstone Architecture Methodology: A 3-Dimensional Approach to Architectural Design

Overview This paper details the key concepts in a 3-dimensional approach to creating dot-com system architecture. It gives an overview of the 3-Dimensional Framework that analyzes an architecture in terms of the three primary design dimensions, Application Tiers, Infrastructure Layers and Systemic Qualities. It explains the process of developing an architecture through the application of architectural patterns. The paper illustrates how QoS requirements should be used to drive the architecture definition and how these principles are synthesized into the SunTone Architecture Methodology, which is iterative and incremental, architecture-centric, use-case-focused, systemic qualities-driven and pattern-based. The paper also discusses the 3-Dimensional Architectural Model that is at the core of the SunTone Architecture Methodology, and gives an overview of the methodology.
