Overview This paper first examines some of the key attributes of the Windows 2000 operating system that are relevant when developing a migration plan. Considerations in weighing the pros and cons of Windows 2000 migration are then discussed. The paper then presents an overview of the key steps involved in Windows 2000 migration-from preparation and planning, through actual migration, to post-migration training, support, and maintenance. The actual rollout process itself is then discussed in more detail, examining how use of a PC management tool such as Symantec Ghost 7.0 Corporate Edition can be used to reduce migration costs and minimize user disruption. The paper then illustrates the calculation of reduced costs in this scenario.
