The "5P" Model: A Different Approach to Information Security

Overview This paper introduces "5P" model that can be used to manage any information security issue or situation that an organization may face. The "5P" model is composed of three stages: identification, resolution, and management, and five phases: people, policy, process, procedure, and product. The primary strength of this model lies in the fact that product (hardware and software) implementations are delayed or avoided altogether. Placing product at the end of the resolution process causes the organization to focus on key areas (people, policy, process, and procedure) that are often overlooked in the decision process.
