NDS eDirectory 8.5 Sizing Guide for Solaris

Overview A set of benchmarks for NDS eDirectory 8.5 on Solaris 8 were run with the objective of observing the scalability of eDirectory running on Sun mid-range servers. The key benchmark used to determine this scalability is LDAP search performance and tests have shown near linear scalability up to 10 processors with a million objects in the directory. The Novell BrainShare¨ 2000 event demonstrated a billion object NDS eDirectory on a single Sun Enterprise 450 server. These tests demonstrate the scalability of eDirectory in multi-CPU enterprise deployments. Customers can immediately take advantage of midrange Sun servers with NDS eDirectory for Solaris in Enterprise deployments for storing hundreds of millions of objects and handle sustained server search loads of up to 2000 connections. Load balancing and fail safe eDirectory deployments with multiple instances of eDirectory running on Sun Enterprise server configurations with more than 10 processors are currently being explored to deliver even higher scalability requirements for NDS eDirectory on Sun Servers.
