Voice-Enabled DSL
Overview Voice is widely acknowledged to be among the most promising applications of DSL, both for commercial and residential applications. While ATM and IP voice "gateways" (herein referred to as Voice over Packets, or VoP) appear to address the needs of the small business segment, there has been relatively less success in delivering true toll-quality voice over DSL at price points attractive to the residential consumer. As copper lines are exhausted and demand for multiple voice lines in the home continues to grow, service providers are looking to DSL to deliver multi-line services to their residential customers. In such a highly competitive business environment, it is imperative that they be provided a derived voice over DSL solution that is robust, yet as simple and inexpensive to provision and maintain as possible.
