IKANO Delivers Instant Results of Olympic Games

Overview The successful operation of the Olympic Games depends on real-time data: race times and scores, medal standings, athlete biographies, weather updates, and more. Thousands of competitors, officials, journalists, and volunteers need accurate, up-to-the-second information for the games to be seamlessly coordinated and run smoothly. As the official data networking services supplier for the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah, IKANO Communications had the Herculean task of building the network infrastructure that would support the critical internal operations of the Games. To meet this challenge, IKANO deployed an end-to-end network based on Cisco Systems routers, switches, security, and content networking products. The network served 10 Olympic competition venues located throughout the Salt Lake City area, as well as the main media center and the athlete's village. The network also provided connectivity for several critical second- and third-tier locations, such as warehouses, accreditation facilities, park-and-ride facilities, and other sites.
