Cisco Enables Equant to Deliver Converged Voice, Video and Data Over IP VPN Architecture
Overview Since its inception, Equant has continued to expand its heritage data experience and services to include voice, video, and multimedia applications. In 1997, Equant launched a point-to-point IP virtual private networking (VPN) service using Cisco Systems technology. In August 1999, Equant decided it needed a more scalable solution and worked with Cisco to migrate to a Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based, multiservice IP VPN architecture. Equant chose to deploy the Cisco multiservice VPN architecture for several reasons. Cisco and Equant's product development teams have a long history of collaboration and worked together to jointly develop a solution based on Cisco AVVID components and multiservice CPE routers. Equant also chose the Cisco IP Telephony platform because of prior collaboration on its intelligent VoIP VPN network architecture. Since implementing convergence technology solutions, Equant has been able to attract and retain more customers and has witnessed strong demand for its IP Telephony service. In the long term, Equant sees the market as much more aware and accepting of convergence services.
