De Persgroep Saves 10% Annually on IT Costs Using Oracle9i Application Server Technology
Overview De Persgroep is the publisher of Belgian's most widely read Flemish newspaper, Het Laatste Nieuws, and has recently launched its rapidly growing e-commerce website, Markt.be, which publishes content for the purchase and sale of used cars. Since the early 1990s, De Persgroep has used Oracle technology to manage its sales, subscriptions, advertising, editing, printing, and back office administration. In 2001 the company went live on Oracle9i Application Server (Oracle9iAS) and moved to a browser based environment running Java to grow its internet projects and offer e-business services to customers via its website. Moving to Oracle9iAS and thereby automating and Web-enabling business processes has increased the productivity and efficiency of the staff and administration as a whole. One-hundred percent availability is essential for the media industry where down time would result in lost revenue and reduce customer loyalty.
