Business Management White Papers

The new generation of management information systems – the new generation

Overview This paper talks about the challanges the managers face to understand enough about their organisation to win it the success it needs. The first step is to accept that with modern technology, management information tasks which may have eluded analysis previously are today perfectly attainable if approached in the right manner. In the past, an organisation with a large customer base and a lengthy list of products was very much on its own as far as gathering management information was concerned. In most cases it had no truly effective way of achieving any useful levels of reporting and analysis as the quantity of customer and product information often exceeded the limits of hardware performance. Additionally, multi-sourced data was delivered in incompatible structures, levels and detail, so that even though the data was theoretically to hand, it was not in any real sense of the word available for use.
