Consolidating Oracle RDBMS Instances Using Solaris Resource Manager Software

Overview This document is intended for system administrators and briefly discusses using Solaris Resource Manager software and Oracle RDBMS. It is not an in-depth discussion on how to look at resource or database management, which is discussed in detail in other publications. However, these publications do not provide step-bystep instructions on how to install Solaris Resource Manager software and Oracle RDBMS, and how they should be configured to work together. It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the concepts of resource management and the Solaris Resource Manager product, and is an experienced Oracle database administrator. To begin with, this document discusses Solaris Resource Manager software, how to install it, basic commands, and other essential information. A brief review of Oracle RDBMS follows. Then, the combination of Solaris Resource Manager software and Oracle RDBMS is highlighted, especially what can and cannot be done. Finally, two examples are provided along with a list of reference materials.
