Extending and Customizing Web Services Implementations Through The Use of Message Handlers

Overview Web services are an important approach to integration, but Web services standards are only beginning to address enterprise qualities-of-service issues, such as security, transactional semantics, and reliable message delivery. This paper describes the use of message handlers in IONA’s XMLBus. Message handlers can intercept Web services communications at various points along the message path, and thereby allow customized processing of the message. In this way, XMLBus APIs let you extend a Web service implementation to address additional requirements and standards, without having to change basic implementation and WSDL definition.
