UK Treasury Relies on Borland InterBase for Economic Modeling

Overview United Kingdom Treasury economists use statistics from a wide range of sources as part of their briefing, analysis, and forecasting activities, and in modeling work, including work on the Treasury’s model of the UK economy. These activities form an input to policy advice to the Chancellor; for example, in relation to the Budget. The UK Treasury needed to improve its ability to access economic modeling data kept on its mainframe system. The Treasury found InterBase to be fast, reliable, and easy to work with. Having chosen InterBase for the server end of the system, Delphi became the natural choice for a Rapid Application Development (RAD) tool to build the graphical front end. The client/server system proved equal in reliability to the mainframe, while being much faster and far less costly to maintain.
