Cognos Series 7 Scalability Benchmarks

Overview The testing described in this paper shows that the Cognos Series 7 business intelligence (BI) solution can support a Solaris 8 processing environment that delivers mixed-processing response times of less than 9 seconds for 16,000 users on a Sunfire 4800 with 8 central processor units (CPUs). The testing was designed to emulate a real-world BI environment in which OLAP (Online Analytical Processing), ad hoc query, report processing, and a combination of these is performed under increasing load. Objective, independent benchmarking software was used. Inter-transaction think times were eliminated as a factor when determining the number of concurrent users on which real-world user estimates are based.
