Overview FirstMerit Bank, N.A. was in the middle of converting its legacy systems to more advanced, integrated mainframe systems, when developers discovered their existing tools could not debug online abends or data exceptions. With just weeks remaining before the conversion’s cut-over date, the team had little time to find more suitable tools to meet their needs. Based on third-party recommendations and past experiences of some of its own staff, FirstMerit chose Compuware’s fault diagnosis and data management tools, Abend-AID and File-AID. Before receiving formal training, FirstMerit developers installed the products and began compiling and debugging applications faster than before. They resolved errors found during user acceptance testing in a more timely manner, making the programming staff confident that they were in a better position to support the new systems.
