Supporting a Clear, Business-Critical Need for Video to the Desktop
Overview After a consultation process with their users, the high-profile media organization identified the key applications it would need to support, including video to the desktop and the ability to review programs and commercials on line. This capability would provide an efficient process for the in-house sales staff that sells airtime to advertisers, as well as a succinct structure for supporting programming staff when devising daily schedules. It had become clear that the incumbent network infrastructure would have to be radically upgraded to support the features Channel 4 would need in the future. Enterasys Networks and Siemens Network Systems Ltd (SNSL) proposed an X-Pedition Router solution (formerly the SmartSwitch Router) to bring Fast Ethernet to the desktop as it provided high-speed server and backbone connectivity.
