High-Speed Networking Increases Educational Opportunity
Overview Pennsylvania’s Dallastown Area School District encompasses over 52 miles and serves more than 5,000 students in grades K through 12 with five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. The district has 535 instructional and non-instructional employees. Recognizing the trend toward interconnectivity - the nationwide desire to connect schools - and plans from Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge’s Project Build PEN, the Dallastown Area School District knew it needed a durable, high-speed networking solution to improve efficiency for administrators and teachers, and to increase educational offerings for its students. According to John Sherwood, director of information systems and technology, the district needed to install a wide area network as well as to develop and build an IT staff that could implement and maintain this solution. “The district wanted to support voice, video and data solutions within its network, plus we required ongoing technical expertise to help us get the network running up to speed,” said Sherwood. So, we looked to Enterasys Networks.
