Teradata's Ease of Management: A Total Cost of Ownership Advantage
Overview As more and more vendors target their data warehousing products towards business analysis, customers are starting to see databases and other related tools as a commodity purchase. As a result, they sometimes do not take into account the cost of maintaining a data warehouse, its growth, or the work associated with the end users of the warehouse. This paper addresses the savings that will accrue when constructing a data warehouse with a database that is relatively self-managing. The authors’ underlying assumption is that the real cost of the data warehouse is not in acquiring the hardware and software (operating system or the DBMS), but rather in the application development and overall management effort. Included in the paper is information that shows the potential contribution made to reducing Total Cost of Ownership by each benefit of a data warehouse.
