Ethernet White Papers

Ethernet Services Served Up at the Edge

Overview With Ethernet in place end to end, enterprise networkers and service providers share a common delivery mechanism. There’s no need to convert Ethernet traffic into other WAN protocols and then translate it back at the far end of a connection. For enterprise customers, that means higher performance and more reliable application service, as well as the chance to extend their Ethernet application infrastructure virtually worldwide. For service providers, end-to-end Ethernet dramatically improves their ability to carry data traffic while lowering operating costs. (Ethernet is much cheaper and easier to provision than SONET.) For both sides it’s a win-win situation, and that’s just a brief summary of the benefits.
