Overview This paper presents the lifecycle events in using PKI based digital signatures on XML documents. The implications of using XML Key Management Specification (XKMS) instead of the traditional, ASN.1 based PKI interfaces, is examined. The pros and cons of using local credentials versus centralized credentials for document signing as well as a scheme for implementing 'role based signing' are discussed.
