Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Scalability Project: Rosetta Genomics 10-TB Human Genome Database

Overview This paper discusses storage, loading, and configuration options used in a real-world application of Microsoft SQL Server 2000 in a 10-terabyte (TB) database application. The performance effects of several configuration alternatives for building and loading the database were studied, with the most effective solutions presented here. We also take a brief look at the two queries used by the Rosetta Genomics application to extract human genome information. This paper consolidates information garnered through research and testing, and will be used to provide setup and configuration parameters as the Rosetta Genomics production database grows to an expected 100 TB.
