The Effectiveness of Intranets in Post-Secondary Education

Overview Intranets are computer software that facilitates group activities such as collaboration and communication. Intranets are a recent phenomenon in business and an even more recent phenomenon in post-secondary education. There is little research concerning intranets in education and even less on intranets in post-secondary education. The purpose of this study is to fill this gap by providing a description of intranets and their effectiveness in the post-secondary educational environment. Data was collected in three classes using student and professor surveys, observation notes, interviews and computer transcripts. The results of this research provide insight into specific issues concerning intranets in an academic environment.
