Overview Liskeard School and Community College is a state-funded comprehensive school serving a mainly rural community in Cornwall, England. Liskeard School sees communications technology as key to providing students with a rich and highly supportive learning environment. Their original 3Com network was performing well but the time had come to look to the future. Staff and students were demanding improved Internet access and it was obvious that bandwidth-intensive educational applications would continue to assume greater importance. They needed a fast, powerful and resilient network infrastructure which would support current requirements and evolve to meet the school's changing needs. Liskeard School turned to local 3Com channel partner, Perkins Communications, for advice. The school chose a 3Com Gigabit Ethernet solution. Since installing the 3Com Gigabit Ethernet network, they can easily support power-hungry applications, such as streaming media, and meet the seemingly insatiable demand for fast downloads by staff and students who now view the Internet as their primary research tool.
