3Com Helps Change Normal University Enhance Curriculum and Boost Competitive Edge With CampusNet

Overview Changde Normal University (CDNU) occupies three different sites which are over 10 km apart. CDNU is widely recognised as an innovative force within the Chinese education system. The university wanted to increase the level of network connectivity on campus to include buildings such as the living quarters occupied by staff and students. Another of the university's aims was to allow designated users to share online information and resources such as shareware application services, for example, electronic books. By using 3Com Network Supervisor (3NS) to monitor and manage the network, CDNU has found a marked reduction in the demands on IT staff. 3NS monitors network traffic levels and distribution and triggers alerts if issues are identified. It enables IT staff to perform more of their tasks from a single location, reducing the need for travel between the sites. CDNU believes that the outstanding compatibility inherent in all 3Com network equipment ensures that the university can upgrade the network whilst safeguarding its existing investment.
