Overview Today, the burden of maintaining complex IT business systems can seem daunting and overwhelming both for companies that are looking to begin its use and those who wish to continue its use. It is with the closures of many dot-com businesses that other companies are beginning to see the consequences of what happens when the myriad costs of technology are overlooked. The nature of IT is that each system is highly individualized and developed for a specific company which makes standardization of systems seemingly impossible. More importantly it becomes extremely difficult to estimate the monthly cost of running the systems once they have been developed. Furthermore these problems are often exacerbated with companies running multiple platforms and segmented modules. Software manufacturers and developers often do not mention these pressures in their sales tactics, and so it is imperative that any company first calculate an accurate IT budget, and then makes sure that the money they do spend is put to its most effective use.
