ATM to Ethernet Migration - One Vendor, One Platform, One Solution

Overview ATM provided a number of significant advantages to those who deployed it. It allowed multiple services to exist on the same network (voice, data), it offered true QoS (Quality of Service), and it made it possible to roll out point-to-point connections to connect different facilities or bases.

Even though ATM has been a great success, is deployed in most of the biggest networks in the world, and ATM networks have developed a well-known reputation for reliability, many large carriers and military organizations are very interested in exploring ways of migrating from their legacy ATM networks to modern Metro Ethernet. The advent of Metro Ethernet and MPLS have enabled carriers to roll out networks with all the features and benefits that ATM provides over much less expensive and easier to deploy and manage Ethernet.
