Universal IP VPN Services

Overview Enterprises find IP VPNs attractive because they offer a cost-effective method of extending the corporate network to remote sites, telecommuters, and mobile workers, while offering the same levels of security and performance provided by dedicated private networks. Service providers find them attractive because they add another marketable service to their product portfolio, and increase revenue potential by enabling providers to offer additional value-added IP services.

To be a true "Universal" IP VPN, the service must address all the requirements of the diverse enterprise customer base, must be available via any type of access mechanism, should operate over a frame or cell-based core network, and should not be restricted to just one VPN model. This paper demonstrates how the Nortel Networks Shasta* 5000 BSN delivers on the Universal IP VPN concept, enabling service providers to differentiate their IP VPN offering with advanced IP services.
