Making the Move to Java
Overview During the past five years, many college and university systems have changed dramatically. To accommodate the ever-increasing traffic, optimize programming effort, and support portals and similar session-based applications, many institutions have embarked on the conversion to a server side Java infrastructure. The challenge now is to determine the best way to approach the change, given limitations in funding, staffing and expertise. This paper intends to lay out steps institutions should take when considering the shift to a Java infrastructure. Included is advice on how to assess and plan, dedicate resources, examine the technology's scope, training, and ultimately, seizing the opportunity.
