Collaborative Data Sharing in Complex Work Environments - the Storage Resource Broker
Overview This paper describes the architecture and capabilities of the Storage Resource Broker (SRB). SRB is a data grid implementation, a powerful yet easy-to-use software that enables researchers, developers, and other knowledge workers in collaborative groups to discover, share and manage high-value files through a simple interface. SRB provides applications and clients with a uniform interface to access heterogeneous distributed storage resources, including filesystems, databases, and archival storage. The use of a Metadata Catalog (MCAT) provides an enterprise-wide, “collection”-oriented view of data, and SRB incorporates a simple point-and-click user interface to enable discovery, presentation and management of data collections.
