Global Optical Communication: RPR for Metro Networks

Overview Metropolitan area network (MAN) plays a vital role in connecting users to wide area networking (WAN) services. Traditionally, MANs have been circuit-switched networks that are optimised for voice traffic using the Synchronous Optical Network (SONET)/synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) circuit-switched layer. Local area networks (LANs), on the other hand, are packet-switched networks that are optimised for data traffic using Ethernet technology.
