Object-Oriented White Papers

Using and Customizing the SmartToolbar

Overview This paper describes the Progress SmartToolbar object, which can be used as a toolbar of buttons, a window main menu, or both, in a wide variety of styles. The paper also describes in detail how the SmartToolbar can be customized to provide an object which is adapted for a specific application. The toolbar paper shows a number of ways in which the new "custom" hooks can be used to extend the standard set of SmartObject classes without modifying the files shipped with the product. Note that as of November 2000 this paper has been updated to correct a small number of typographical errors; we are looking into having the paper extensively reworked to illustrate other useful aspects of Toolbar customization sometime soon.
